Ha Ha - that'll teach me

Start talking about putting the heat lamps on and we have a mini heatwave! It's the end of September and the temperature is rising by the day. No doubt they'll be banging on about global warming before long - but face it what was the disappearance of the ice age if it wasn't Global Warming??? A change in temperature is nothing new is it - never satisfied - that just about sums us British up in a nut shell.
The new web site has been in operation for over a week now, I think the majority of glitches are now ironed out and I can start adding the missing pages, I'd really like to know what you think of the new format so please feel free to leave a comment below. I appreciate that not everyone is happy with each area having their own waiting list, but I would like to hear your thoughts on the overall site.
The Bulldog Breed Council Health Committee are running two polls right now that they'd like your help with, one is for breeders and the occurrence of water pups and the other is for pet owners, if you feel you can help out please click on one (or both) of the links below

The spot light is never far from this breed so the more facts we can gather to throw back at the breed bashers the better in my opinion.

  1. Hi Tania
We think the new website is really good. Can we throw our suggestions in please.
We think it would help if there are more than one photo of the dogs that are looking for new homes. We like looking at the Bulldog photos and so the more the better.

Also we have to say we dont like the idea of regional waiting lists. Could it be considered unfair because many of the dogs are located at the main kennel down south, that would mean the people in that region get more opportunites of getting dogs. For example there are no dogs availabe in Scotland at the moment. If the right couple in Scotland are prepared to drive down to another region to collect a dog why is that wrong?
Anyhow, we think the website is great and we hope you dont mind our comments.

  2. Thank you John/Alison, your comments are very much appreciated. I'll try and explain why our rules regarding distance are in place. The main reason is so the same volunteer can deal with the individual rehoming, owners who are having their dogs rehomed from home really do appreacite the fact that the person that comes out to visit them at the beginning is the same person that will do the final homecheck, on a more sinister note, we have in the past lost dogs in transit because we allowed them to travel too far, so sadly there was a lesson learned there that will never be repeated. I'm sure you can also appreciated that we have between 700 and 1000 people on the waiting list at any given time so keeping the lists regional makes the job of rehoming much easier. Even under our old system we didn't allow dogs to travel for more than 2 hours for the reasons stated so a dog travelling from Sussex to Scotland would never have happened any way. To be fairer on people waiting dogs in the kennel (South Central) are also listed in the South East area which is something we are trying to do with all dogs that are near to two or more areas.
With regard to the photos - getting one photo out of the owners is hard enough and we often have to wait for the volunteer to do the initial visit or pick up the dog before we get one at all, I do appreciate that people like to look at the pictures, but owners are not terribly forthcoming with photographs which is a shame or the photo they send in with the paperwork isn't very good.
I hope this helps explain things a bit better and of course I don't mind, I'll always answer any question put to me.
