The Law is failing these dogs ....

At 4pm yesterday afternoon a call came in from a local police station, a drug raid on a flat not only revealed an illegal immigrant (who was deported last night) and a canabis farm but a very young and inured bulldog! If he's stolen he's certainly not on our list but the most likely senario for him being there is that he was payment for a drug deal. By the time we got called the police had tried every single dogs home in the area - all said they couldn't take him because he wasn't a stray!!!

There was no question about us taking him, in fact the volunteer that covered that area was already on her way here with a dog, so she was handed the details and sent back home to collect him. At that time we had no idea if he was male, female, pup, fully grown, friendly or what! What she found was a 8/9 month old pup with an injured front leg. He'll see the vet first thing Monday morning to work out whats wrong with him and now he's in our system the chances of him remaining in the drug world with all the awful things that happen to dogs in that fraternity are well and truly behind him but I can't tell you how angry I am that there was NO ONE there to help him. No wonder people dump their dogs if the only way any dog can make it into an all breed shelter is as a stray.

We'll keep you posted on his progress, needless to say he now happily settled in his foster home and a forever home is already waiting for him!

  1. Now named Syd, the dear little man came to visit me this afternoon, he has a huge absess under his front leg that looks like it's received treatment before, so the hunt begins to see if any of the vets near to where he was found have treated a pup for this as the fur has been shaved around the area and there is a scar. He's certainly not as old as 9 months, probably more like 5 - my guess is that after someone couldn't pay their drug dept, they simply said "I've got a dog worth 2 grand, I can't afford his treatement - have him" Poor little man has absolutely no idea how lucky he is.

  2. What has facinated me Tania is that all the "all breed rescues" that the police had contacted had turned him away because he wasn't a stray.
Surely at the end of the day they as an "all breed rescue" and a registered chariety have a duty of care for animals (in this case a young bullie) whom had an injured leg which the police would of made them aware of and yet they turned him away.
He should of been a priority due to the need of medical attention.
They turned him away because he wasn't a stray.
They turned him away with an Injury.
They should of taken him in considering he was an injured animal in distress.
This only goes to show the true dedication and commitment that you have for your bullies, and that maybe they need to be learning a thing or 2 from you.

  3. Syd has been to the vets this morning and it turns out that the vet we use for that area is the vet that treated him!!! So we now know for sure that he's 7 months old and that his elbow has actually be fractured and pinned but not rested hense the huge abcess. He's been with the drug dealer since a pup - it just goes to show how wrong you can be about people ay!

  4. Its a joke that these so called rescue centres will only take strays. They should not call themselves 'RESCUE' centres as clearly they are not rescuing the dogs that are in need of being rescued. Makes me sick. Thank god our breed has a rescue, and a decent one of that.
Glad Syd is on the road to recovery!
